Travel Packing Made Easy

As I pack up my family for summer vacay to Mexico, I’m always thinking about ways that I can share my tips with you all.  This isn’t the first time I’ve covered this topic and I’m sure it won’t be the last.  Sometimes we need to hear things a few times before it sinks in… OR we just need a refresher!  My tips are really simple and easy to implement.  So here is to travel packing made easy:

  1. START WITH A LIST-Most processes that are efficient start with a list, so of course I created a travel packing list.  My list includes dates, weather, list of activities, checklist of items, and then a list of specific outfits needed.  This is my roadmap that ensures that I don’t forget a thing, but also I can pick out outfits efficiently.  It also helps me avoid overpacking.  Click here to get a copy of my travel packing list.

  2. CHOOSE A COLOR PALETTE-I’ve been doing this for years for myself and my clients to be able to mix and match pieces throughout our trips.  I can rewear items to get multiple uses and therefore pack less items.  Examples of color palettes that I choose for trips: Mexico-bright colors + white; NYC-white + black + camel; Colorado-blue + green.  I can be so much more decisive when I’ve narrowed things down to a color palette.

  3. PICK YOUR SHOES FIRST-Meaning, pick out your shoes before you choose your clothes.  The idea is that if you pick out your shoes first then you can build your outfits around that (and your color palette) so you don’t overpack shoes.  Too many shoes are one of the most common things that people overpack.  I always choose neutral color shoes for trips so they match everything.  I typically take one sneaker and one nice sandal or boot.  I promise this works for most trips, but you have to be intentional about your shoe choices.  Click here to see my go to travel sneaker and dressy sandal.  They are definitely wardrobe staples, but also specifically travel staples!!!

  4. PACK 2 DAYS BEFORE-We seem to live in a world where everything is SO fast pace and last minute.  I’m sure that most people are throwing things in a suitcase at around midnight for a 6am flight.  However, I encourage you all to pack at least 2 days before you travel.  Which means you need to do your laundry around 4 days before you travel.  Packing your bags early allows you to do so with a clear brain and most importantly it gives you a bit of wiggle room in case you need to run out to pick up something last minute.

This is not rocket science and honestly all very doable.  It just takes planning, but I promise it’s SO worth it!  As always, please let me know if I can help you streamline your travel packing process or if you ever need my services to pack for you.

SAFE TRAVELS my friends!

with LOVE and grace,

Elizabeth
