LOVE Yourself: Kim Gonzalez

It seems fitting to have my best friend as my first guest to feature on this LOVE Yourself blog series.  Kim and I have been friends since 4th grade.  We share many things in common, but probably one of the strongest qualities is our constant path on self-improvement.  In my opinion, Kim is on a beautiful journey of being kind to herself, loving herself, and living a positive life.  She is living life on purpose and with meaning!!!  Please enjoy her honest perspective on LOVE Yourself…

  1. What does LOVE yourself mean to you?

To truly love yourself you much take care of yourself. This includes physical, mental & emotional. How we each handle each of these three things is different day to day and season to season. Striving to find the perfect balance of this triads is a constant challenge. Yet, I believe I am worth it.

2.   Did you have a someone that exuded a positive body image for you growing up?  A family member, friend, mentor, etc.

I had a best friend & her mother. They were, and still are, the most positive influences in my life. Loving yourself no matter how crazy the world gets. Remaining a class act and always dressing above and beyond for every occasion. I still have a long way to go in many of these areas. Yet, I have learned everyone has "things" they do not like or they wish was different. Finding the fit and style of clothing that makes you feel and look your best. Standing proud and realizing how truly bless we are. Body image is something I have heard young and old women complain about. We must continue to be that positive influence for each other.

3.    Do you tear your body apart vocally?

I used to be more vocal about what I do not like on my body. Then I realized how unattractive it is to complain. It is hard to stand in front of the mirror naked and find the good in myself. Yet, I know how truly blessed and lucky I am to be strong and healthy.

  4.    Are you working to improve your mindset around body image or is it a neutral mindset for you?

Body image is a constant struggle. I have a list of affirmations I try to repeat to myself daily to help keep this mindset strong and true.

5.    Do you have anyone that you are trying to set a healthy example for?

I work extremely hard to be a positive influence in my daughter's life. I try not to vocalize any negatives regarding my body because I do not want her to hear them. I let her know when I work out and go to yoga so that she can see how important it is to stay active and strong. We discuss eating the rainbow and what are healthy foods. I want the happiest and healthiest life possible for my daughter. I love watching her stand proudly in front of the mirror while naked and dance and smile. I love healthy active lifestyle & I plan on living one until I am extremely old and gray.

P.S. If you follow my social media threads, you will know that Kim and I often end up matching.  The photo above was from New York 2017 and surprise surprise we are matching again!!! ☺

with LOVE and grace,

Elizabeth
