SUMMER STYLING: Mix & Match

In these uncertain times, I realize a lot of people are not shopping.  While I personally feel clothes & style are essential, that’s not the truth for everyone.  However, if you want to feel CONFIDENT and stylish this summer you can still accomplish that without buying new pieces.  Here’s the secret…you have to be creative!  Yep, you have to mix things up in your wardrobe.  If creativity is not your jam, don’t worry I’ve got you covered below with a few tips to Mixing and Matching:

Book a styling session for yourself.  That’s right sister!  Schedule a 30 minute styling session with yourself to explore new looks.  We tend to just throw on looks that we know and don’t have to think about.  Blast some tunes and let your creative juices flow into new looks for the summer.

Don’t be afraid to mix pattern on pattern.  Have you ever noticed the people you think are super stylish aren’t afraid to style a look with pattern on pattern?  For some people, it’s intimating but I promise it’s easy to style.  The key to pulling off this look is finding a common denominator.  For example, you can mix stripe shorts with a polka dot top.  If both are in black and white, they easily coordinate together.  Stripes are an easy pattern to test out first when coordinating pattern on pattern.

Repurpose your pieces.  Scarves & bandanas are one of the best accessories for this.  Lately I’ve been placing my scarves on my head, hats, over my shoulder, pool cover up (larger ones!).  These are new ways for me to use these pieces and repurpose them.  You can’t overthink it if you tied it right with scarves-just run with it!  I also love to turn a dress into a skirt by layer a tee or shirt on top.  Voila, you have repurposed this piece!

Mix old with new.  This can be as simple as mixing a light cotton dress you have had for years with a newish pair of jazzy sneakers.  I personally love to mix vintage pieces with modern fashion.  For example, I’ve added broaches and silk scarves to hats.  Vintage earrings had a flair to any look.  I’ve also been “shopping” in my jewelry drawer and have mixed up a few old charms/pendants on a newer chain.  Layered necklaces are SO hot right now!!!  You don’t have to purchased new ones, just rework what you already have.

Mix solid colors.  Color blocking can make a HUGE impact.  For a fresh new way to style your looks for the summer, try pairing a solid bold color top with a solid bold color bottom (shorts, skirt or jeans).  You can add a fun patterned belt to accessorize this look or just keep it simple with the solid colors.

You’ve got this friends!  And if you get stuck and new fresh ideas I’m available for in person and virtual styling sessions to mix and match what you already have.  I’m here to help!  I can’t wait to see what you create for your summer looks.  Please text me photos of your mix and match looks.  I literally LIVE for messages like this!!!!

with LOVE and grace,

Elizabeth
