Prep Your Home for the Holidays

unnamed.jpg

As a creative, when I prep for any big occasions like the holidays I typically start with fashion and housewares.  It’s like I have to get my creative juices flowing with areas that I love and then I’m ALL IN!  Then all the details of these special occasions fall into place.

This year it feels like any celebration is SO meaningful but nothing is “normal” so we need to rethink how we prep for the holidays.  Because you know that I like to give you guys quick easy to consume tips so let me break it down for you on how to prep your home for the holidays:

  1. Make A List-You guessed it, always start with a list! Like with your wardrobe, it’s important to take that time to create your list. Create a list of the holiday’s you are celebrating over the next few months. Then create a list of the supplies you need to shop for. Then I even mark where I’m going to shop for each of those specific items. Honestly this first step is SO therapeutic to me and really makes planning for the holiday season not so overwhelming.

  2. Add it your Calendar-Once you have a shopping list, block time in your calendar to shop for these items. This allows you to get things in time and not reactively shopping. Also, mark your calendar when you plan to decorate for each holiday.

  3. Include your Family-Wherever you can, it’s always more meaningful to add your family into decorating your home for the holidays. There are different jobs depending on who is in your family. Be creative on what you engage everyone to help with. It truly makes the holidays more magical!

  4. Some of my Favorite Stores (as you can see I have eclectic taste!)

    1. CB2

    2. Crate & Barrell

    3. A Christmas Affair

    4. Antique Stores/Thrift Stores/Roundtop

    5. Ballard Design

    6. West Elm

    7. Homegoods

    8. Trader Joes

    9. One Kings Lane

    10. Gracious Garlands

    11. World Market

    12. Austin Flower Market

  5. Quick Tips

    1. Don’t set yourself up for Failure by believing you can do everything! (See number 3 above)

    2. Choose one SPECIAL feature for the holiday this year. Mine is adding in the ornaments that my Tita (grandma) gave me + many more in this year.

    3. Remove a few “permanent pieces” in your spaces where you are adding holiday décor. It keeps things from looking too cluttered for the holidays and really lets the holiday pieces SHINE.
