INSPIRATION FROM GRANNY
Recent travels to Round Top, West Texas and the anniversary of my granny’s passing has me thinking about her more recently. I think it’s incredibly important to know where you come from in order to truly know yourself. This is significant for many reasons, but I also find this instrumental in knowing your true individual style. My personal style within my home and the clothes I put on my body is definitely inspired from the STRONG women in my family. My love of antiques was nurtured by my granny. We bonded over the many stories she would share from her childhood and her mother’s great taste in antiques. She loved to educate me on a certain china pattern or pie crust table or satee and so on. I would always hang on to every word she said to soak up as much as possible. Over the years she passed on a few pieces to me that I cherish and have throughout my home. I recently added her satee to my office which was one of my favorite pieces in her home. I’ve also recently hung an oil painting portrait of her in my halfway. Jacqueline Walker is such a beautiful addition to my home! I find these pieces to be incredibly grounding to have around me everyday and remind me where I come from. It’s also feels like I have my granny cheering me on daily.
I share this story to encourage you to be thoughtful about the pieces you curate for your home AND your wardrobe. We live in a world that is SO fast and all about posting an outfit of the coolest new trends on social media. Anyone can do that, but not everyone can be uniquely you with your OWN individual style. We are lucky to live in a time and a country that we can create our personal style inspired from many different experiences, people, travels and things. I encourage you to take the time to think about how you want to curate your style (clothes AND home). Afterall, it makes things much more interesting!!!
P.S. This photo shows me admiring this portrait of granny, but I’m also wearing one of her dresses. Another cherished piece from her!
with LOVE and grace,
Elizabeth
