IF THE SHOE DOESN’T FIT

I encourage my clients to clean out and refresh their wardrobe twice a year….August/September and February/March.  However, I end up cleaning anywhere from 3-4 times a year.  For example, the other day I needed more wooden hangers (because you know I need them to match!!!) so in the pursuit of more hangers I ended up doing a closet clean out.  This happens to me all the time.  Everything leads to a closet clean out or an organizing project.  I just can’t help it.  I’m crazy OBBESSED with all things related to closets and organizing.  Good thing I do this for a living!!! Wink wink!

So it’s August and I’ve already cleaned out my closet 3 times.  I would say that consistently I’ve done a pretty good job of letting go the things I don’t wear.  However, there is always room for improvement.  I don’t want to come across that I’m perfect at this practice and it’s always a “work in progress” with me too. Honestly, in my last closet clean out here are….

3 ITEMS I COULDN’T GET RID OF:

1.    BCBG Dress: I love this dress but it’s not a good color for me.  It washes me out.  I put aside my common sense (I knew it wasn’t a good color for me) when I purchased it because I liked the cut, etc.  Bottom Line, I’m not the BEST version of myself in this dress so it’s time to cut my loses (wasted $$$) and not let this dress clutter my closet anymore.

2.    Stuart Weitzman Pumps: The platform on these heels are just too much for me now.  I’ve kept them this long because they are expensive shoes.  I see this all the time in my client’s closets.  The best way to justify this is to consign them.

3.    Banana Republic Camo Pants: I purchased these pants to get a little outside of my comfort zone (which is good sometimes) and they were inexpensive (major sale!) so it was worth trying.  I’ve tried to style them many different ways and the bottom line is they aren’t the most flattering on me.  So they still have tags on them which is very obvious it’s time to let them go.

So if the shoe (or dress or pants) doesn’t fit, it’s time to let it go!!!  Good riddance!!!  Cleaning out your closet doesn’t have to be painful.  Just think about the end result and how much lighter you will feel.  Trust me, it’s a great feeling!!

PRO TIP: if you haven’t worn the item since your last closet clean out (hopefully the last time was within the last year) then it’s time to let it go.
